Today in Phillies History
Today , February 13, in Phillies history:
- 1953 - The
Philadelphia Athletics change the name of Shibe Park to Connie Mack
Stadium in honor of their longtime owner and manager. - 1970- Kevin Stocker is born in Spokane, Washington. On July 7, 1993, he began his major
league career with the Phillies. He was traded to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays
in 1997 for Bobby Abreu. Was this a good trade by the Phillies? Today,
Stocker lives with his wife Brooke and three children. He owns a smoothie
shop called the Emerald City Smoothie Shop in Washington State. http://www.emeraldcitysmoothie.com
I wondered what ever happened to him. I’d heard he was coaching college baseball at the University of Washington- is that still correct? Seemed like a nice person, but was just an average shortstop. The trade by the Phillies for Abreu, although it didn’t lead directly to any playoff appearances, was a great one- Abreu certainly proved to be a much better player than Stocker, and although lacking in personality, was a very professional player.
